Client Priorities and Kitchen Remodeling Vision

From the initial consultation, it was clear that the clients had a well-defined vision for their remodel. Here are some of the most important priorities for this White Oak kitchen remodel.

Open Space & Natural Light

The top priority was to open up the main floor to create a more inviting, connected space. They wanted to maximize natural light by adding more windows, especially in the kitchen, to frame views of their picturesque backyard. This would turn the previously dim and closed-off kitchen into a bright, welcoming workspace. To create a more open, connected space, we removed the wall between the kitchen and living room, allowing natural light to flow freely throughout. This required reconfiguring the ceiling structure, including eliminating a tray ceiling and non-structural columns in the dining area. Entertaining and Storage Needs

As avid home cooks and bakers, the clients needed a kitchen to handle the demands of hosting family gatherings and whipping up their favorite recipes. A must-have on their wishlist was a two-oven kitchen design, along with ample cabinetry for storage. They also envisioned a large kitchen island with seating—a central hub for casual meals, conversations, and meal prep. We added custom cabinetry with roll-out trays, a paneled refrigerator, a composite bar sink, and a mix of open shelving and closed cabinets for storing glassware and bar essentials.

Design Preferences & Hidden Details

The desire to keep all electrical outlets and switches out of sight was a particularly unique request. They loved their selected backsplash tile's clean, uninterrupted look and wanted a solution that wouldn’t compromise the design. Our team embraced the challenge, integrating hidden outlets under the cabinetry.

Flooring & Surfaces

The entire first floor was updated with new 4" white oak hardwood flooring, which provided a cohesive and warm foundation throughout. The natural white oak’s subtle grain pattern added character while keeping the overall look clean and contemporary. We used white quartz for the countertops, a popular choice among our clients for its sleek appearance, low maintenance, and durability. The quartz countertops served as the perfect canvas to marry the kitchen’s two-tone cabinetry design.White cabinets and mosaic backsplash with brass fixtures in Cincinnati kitchen remodel by Legacy BuildersOak flooring and quartz countertops on island in Cincinnati kitchen remodel by Legacy Builders

Custom Cabinetry & Storage Solutions

We incorporated a mix of full-height pantry cabinets, base cabinets with pull-out trays, and glass-front wall cabinets to add variety and visual interest. The two-tone approach featured crisp white cabinets for the perimeter, contrasted with a rich walnut finish for the island, creating a focal point that anchors the space.

For instance, the kitchen island was designed with ample storage underneath, making it an ideal spot to stow away cookware, bakeware, and small appliances. The island also included a designated space for their dog’s food and water bowls, seamlessly integrating pet-friendly functionality into the design.

Lighting & Fixtures

Lighting played a crucial role in enhancing the overall ambiance of the newly remodeled spaces. In the kitchen, three large bronze pendant lights were suspended above the island, providing both task lighting and a warm glow that accentuates the rich tones of the central kitchen island. Inside the glass-front cabinets, we installed custom LED lighting to showcase the clients' glassware and ceramics, adding a touch of sophistication. For plumbing fixtures, we opted for a mix of stainless steel and brass finishes to create a timeless yet modern look.Glass-front cabinets with lighting in Cincinnati, OH kitchen remodel by Legacy Builders
